Flights of Fantasy: Madame Butterfly-Workshop
Join award winning fiber artist Linda Krause for a fun filled workshop where you will create a butterfly of your very own made from only one kind of fabric. This course will provide a gentle introduction to art quilting. You will learn to play with symmetry in this class. Linda will showcase her quilts, talk about fusing, the elements and principles of design, and guide you through the process of creating your own butterfly. Hand painted background fabrics will also be available (sold separately).
Learn how to create vibrant colorful fabric pieces using Inktense pencils. Linda has already created line drawings on fabric for you.
In class you will explore how to use special ink pigmented pencils to bring the drawings to life. Afterwards you can use your masterpiece in a pillow, tote bag, quilt, etcetera. You can also use the techniques you learn to add vibrancy and life to traditional quilts or other fabric or even paper items. It’s perfect for art lovers and traditional quilters, too.

Color of the Seahorse-Workshop
Create a floppy seahorse of your very own made from only one kind of fabric. This one day course will provide a gentle introduction to art quilting. This course is perfect for those looking for structure. It differs from the Flights of Fantasy: Fish™ workshop in that every student makes the exact same seahorse. A hard and fast pattern is provided with exact fabric cutouts laid out for you. Linda will showcase her quilts, talk about fusing, the elements and principles of design, and guide you through the process of creating your own seahorse. Hand painted background fabrics of various colors will also be available (sold separately).

Flights of Fantasy: Fish-Workshop
Spend a full day learning how to make a fish of your very own from only one kind of fabric. It’s perfect for traditional quilters looking to branch into the art quilt arena. Every student builds a unique work of art. No two are alike. Students will work within a broad outline and are encouraged to color outside the lines! Having to build the fish from only one fabric encourages you to think creatively. Linda will showcase her fish quilts, fusing, the elements and principles of design, and guide you through the process of creating your own fish. At the end of the day most students have a completed fish (without a background). Hand painted background fabrics will also be available (sold separately). To see projects made by some former students, go to the Facebook page
Hold your mouse over the left or right arrows below to see more of my fish and the original fabrics used to create them.
The entire fish is constructed using only ONE fabric, fussy cut and positioned to form all the different elements of the fish design. The photographs above show the fish and then to the right of each fish shows the fabric used to create the fish.
Nature as an Inspiration for Art-Presentation
Linda Kay Krause has spent many years working and playing in the great outdoors. Her focus has been both state and national parks including stints as a Park Naturalist with the Florida Park Service and most recently as an Artist in Residence with the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. She has exhibited in numerous art festivals. A common thread that has run through all of her work is to bring the worlds of nature and art together. Join Linda for a presentation outlining how she finds inspiration in nature and highlighting various techniques including recycling, graphic design, fussy cutting, and nature photography used to create the finished products. No, she won't be bringing a snake to the presentation!
